We’re delighted to announce that Cala Homes (Thames) has chosen building services specialist HBS Group Southern (HBS) as its preferred M&E and solar PV delivery partner for Southwood Mews in Farnborough, Hampshire.
HBS and its integrated divisions will be supplying a complete package of mechanical, electrical, EV charging and solar PV services for 159 properties at the low-carbon housing development.
Offering something to suit everyone from first-time buyers to growing families, Cala Homes Southwood Mews is an exciting collection of one, two, three, and four-bedroom properties. Featuring high-specification fittings throughout, each home has been designed with sustainability front of mind.
Southern Housing Group will acquire 88 out of 159 properties which will be available as shared ownership and affordable rent. To meet the need for more affordable homes in the area, the housing association will deliver a total of 23 units for social rent.

Most recently, installing mechanical, electrical and renewable energy systems at multiple phases of Kings Barton in Winchester and Applegarth Vale in Grayshott. We’re now excited to continue this ongoing partnership and support the Thames office with the delivery of high-quality, energy-efficient new homes at Southwood Mews.

Helping Southwood Mews meet its sustainability targets
Our in-house team designed and specified a compliant and cost-effective solar PV and EV charging solution to ensure the Cala Homes Southwood Mews scheme achieved its carbon reduction requirements and planning conditions within budget.
We will install a combination of single-phase Complete In-roof Solar systems for the houses and three-phase on-roof systems for the apartment blocks, with system sizes ranging from 2.72 kWp up to 7.14 kWp.
The 92 kWp of new build solar PV will generate an estimated 82,000 kWh in annual zero-carbon electricity, lowering emissions by up to 43 tonnes per year. The inclusion of solar panels will help to power the new homes more sustainably and provide valuable energy-bill savings for homeowners.
What’s more, to ensure the development is future-proofed and ready for electric vehicles. Our fully qualified and trained electricians will install 129 x 7.3 kW EV charging points across the Southwood Mews scheme.
