In collaboration with Lovell Partnerships, HBS Electrical complete electrical installation contract for 84 new energy efficient MOD homes at the Larkhill Service Families’ Accomodation (SFA), achieving production rates of up to 16 plots per week to a high quality standard.
In September 2019, Lovell appointed HBS Electrical to support the ongoing critical delivery of modern energy efficient MOD accommodation at Larkhill’s Alanbrooke Estate on Salisbury Plain.
This new build electrical services contract followed on from the successful completion of electrical works for 225 units in under 12 months for Lovell’s Bulford SFA project.
Working in collaboration with the Lovell site team and the existing electrical contractor, HBS provided an electrical package for 84 designated plots of the total 450 being constructed under the Army Basing Programme.
Towards the end of the project we faced the challenges of COVID-19. We took steps to mitigate the impact by implementing enhanced measures on site. This allowed our skilled electricians to safely deliver a high standard of electrical works whilst achieving a rate of 16 plot completions per week. We’re proud to have played a key role in helping to ensure the fast pace MOD housing scheme was completed in time for service personnel and their families some of whom were being repatriated from abroad due to Coronavirus.
Project delivery
- HBS Electrical managed all aspects of supply, installation, testing and commissioning of the electrical system requirements at Larkhill SFA.
- Overseen by a dedicated site-based contracts manager, HBS’ teams of skilled electricians completed staged installs to a consistent quality standard and in the safest manner possible, whilst meeting the client’s accelerated build production levels.
- HBS achieved the high standard, high-volume build through careful management of challenging program timescales that are unprecedented in low-rise UK housing. Site teams adhered to HBSGS strict in-house quality process which was backed up with a pre-occupation check before handing over to the client.
- Built using a traditional, timber frame solution by Stewart Milne and Taylor Lane, all dwellings at Larkhill achieved an energy performance equal to Level 4 of the Code for Sustainable Homes.

The successful completion of 450 MOD homes at Larkhill to a required level of quality within programme targets is credit to the collaboration between Lovell Partnerships and all contractors involved. It enabled the smooth relocation of military personnel from Germany as part of the Army Basing Programme.
