This week is National Apprenticeship Week and the theme is “Build the Future”. The campaign looks to encourage everyone to consider the value apprenticeships bring, to help individuals develop the skills and knowledge required for a rewarding career, and employers to build a workforce with future-ready skills.
The 14th annual week-long celebration of apprenticeships is the perfect opportunity to champion the positive impact apprenticeships can have on communities, local businesses like HBS and regional economies, and recognise how they all benefit from apprenticeships.
To support National Apprenticeship Week 2021, we’ll be showcasing some motivating stories of how HBS apprentices are progressing in their chosen careers. We’ll also explore how they are working hard to help the business adapt and build for the future during what has been a challenging year. Look out for the stories on our social channels and website over the next few days.
We’re focused on building skills for the future of UK construction
The HBS Apprenticeship Scheme has formed an integral part of the business over the last 50 years. Today we have 48 apprentices currently being trained on a variety of disciplines, such as plumbing and heating, electrical and renewable energy services,
Working in partnership with a regional network of college partners, we offer some of the best training in the industry. The apprenticeships give young people from across Hampshire an excellent opportunity to gain the skills and knowledge needed to pursue a career within the construction sector.
A 4-year HBS Apprenticeship combines on-the-job training, work experience on new build residential projects and college-based study. Apprentices work towards achieving an NVQ Level 2 in their chosen area of study and upon completion will progress onto NVQ Level 3.
Each apprentice has a dedicated supervisor who will oversee their development during their training and study with HBS. They ensure apprentices are progressing on the right track towards achieving their qualification and enjoying the experience at the same time.

Today, we are committed more than ever to helping our apprentices develop the right skills and qualifications they need for a rewarding career. This continued investment has helped to train and retain an industry-leading workforce, while crucially fill the skills gap.
After what has been a challenging year for us all. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our apprentices for their understanding and hard work throughout this period. Our apprentices remain pivotal to the future success of HBS, and they will help us to build, adapt and future proof our operations to meet the increasing demands of UK housebuilding.”

The 14th annual National Apprenticeship Week date will take place from 8 to 14 February 2021. National Apprenticeship Week is an annual week-long celebration of apprenticeships across England and is a time to recognise and applaud the brilliant work being done by employers and apprentices across the country.
