HBS Group Southern completes the plumbing, heating & solar PV installation services at Barratt Homes Monarchs Keep, an NHBC Pride in the Job award-winning development of 166 energy-efficient new homes in Southampton.
In 2018, Barratt Homes (Southampton) appointed HBS Mechanical and HBS New Energies as its plumbing and heating and solar PV contractor for 166 new properties under construction at Monarchs Keep in Southampton.
Monarchs Keep is an NHBC Pride in the Job award-winning site which demonstrates the quality of the homes being built and shows the commitment by Barratt Homes and all supporting trades to deliver excellence.
The housing development offers a mix of high-specification 2 bedroom apartments and 2 and 3 bedroom family homes for private sale. Monarchs Keep also boasts over 35% affordable housing, managed by VIVID. Some homes feature roof-integrated solar panels designed, supplied and installed by HBS New Energies.
Our focus on delivering the highest standard of new build mechanical services is reflected in HBS’ plumbing and heating installations consistently being scored NHBC Level 6 ‘Outstanding’ following CQR reports undertaken during 2018, 2019 and 2020.
Summary of new build plumbing & heating services
- HBS Mechanical completed all aspects of supply, installation, testing and commissioning for the housing developments gas, heating, water system requirements.
- The scope of mechanical services undertaken by HBS includes domestic hot and cold water and central heating, soil and wastewater systems, sanitary ware, rainwater goods and above ground drainage. We installed communal hot and cold water services and dry riser fire protection in the apartment blocks.

A SMSTS Mechanical contracts manager lead a dedicated team of qualified plumbing and heating engineers, who together supported Monarchs Keep’s award-winning site management team to achieve a high-quality product in line with programme targets.
- HBS New Energies the projects trusted solar contractor, ensured Barratt Homes Monarchs Keep met its sustainability targets within budget. Our team of new build solar specialists completed the installation of 141 kWp of roof-integrated solar PV across the new homes and apartment blocks. The in-roof solar panels are now generating zero-carbon electricity for homeowners, reducing their energy costs and carbon emissions.
- Following its completion, HBS Aftercare will now adopt the site and provide a dedicated 24-hour 365-day after-sales service to homeowners for two years.
