HBS New Energies completes 68.9kwp new build solar scheme at Taylor Wimpey Harbour Edge in Portishead Bristol. The roof-integrated solar systems help to ensure the housing development achieved its energy targets.
Harbour Edge in Portishead is a new housing development from Taylor Wimpey (Bristol) that consists of 186 modern and energy efficient homes. It features a 68.9 kWp of roof-integrated solar PV, designed and installed by solar installation partner HBS New Energies.
Built over two phases, the mixed-use scheme includes 30% affordable housing and offers one, two, three and four bedroom properties. With a strong focus on sustainability and energy efficiency the new houses and apartments at Harbour Edge have been constructed to achieve a Code for Sustainable Homes Level 4 rating.
Now complete, each new home at Taylor WImpey Harbour Edge development will feature energy-saving features, including good insulation and some are to benefit from roof integrated solar PV panels that will help reduce resident’s energy bills and carbon emissions.
Summary of new build solar PV services
- HBS New Energies are managing the design, supply and installation of 39 in-roof solar PV systems across multiple houses and apartments. As part of the contracted works HBS install teams and qualified electricians are undertaking all aspects of roofing, electrical connection and system commissioning.
- We consulted closely with the client to ensure the housing scheme satisfied North Somerset Council’s required 15% on-site energy targets for planning. The HBS design team value engineered a solution that maximised PV systems on the best performing roofs and achieved the annual kWh site requirement whilst saving the client money.

HBS’ Operations team and dedicated installers are now working closely alongside site management to ensure the final stages of the scheme are delivered to programme and are focused on completing the solar PV installations to the highest standards.
- The Taylor Wimpey Harbour Edge new build solar PV scheme will yield a projected 60,809 kWh from renewable energy sources and deliver carbon emission savings of 31,559 kg per year.
