Riders complete 400 miles in 4 days for Abby’s Heroes
Eleven heroes including our very own Operations Director Paul Bailey have just completed a four day, 400 mile cycle ride from Southampton to Disneyland Paris in aid of the Abby’s Heroes Charity.
The cycle challenge has raised over £20,000 so far for the Southampton based charity who support children diagnosed with cancer across the South Coast. It’s a truly fantastic result for everyone involved.
The team of riders and the technical support team left from Abby’s Home in Bitterne near Southampton at 5am on Wednesday 26th of July and boarded the ferry to Cherbourg for the first leg of the journey.
The route took the 11 riders down through Caen, Rouen, Cergy, Saint Denis and Paris before arriving safely at Euro Disney, for a photo shoot finale in front of the Disneyland Paris hotel.
During the four day challenge, the team successfully negotiated just under 400 miles of challenging and tiresome riding, overcoming a number of testing hill climbs, a 10 mile trek across a farmer’s field and countless punctures along the way.
Paul Bailey, HBS Group Southern’s Operations Director commented:
‘‘What a fantastic, yet inspiring four days. The 400 miles of riding wouldn’t have happened without the great preparation and organisation from all the teams at home and in France. I am very proud to have been part of this charity event that has raised over £20,000 for such a great cause.’’
We would like to congratulate everyone who has been involved in this challenge, from the planning, the travelling support teams to the riders themselves, they are all heroes. What has been achieved is extraordinary and a real inspiration.
