HBS worked with Kier to deliver over 700 kWh of solar PV across Eastbourne Borough Council’s social housing portfolio. We helped the council achieve their energy saving objectives completing the installation of solar panels to 75 social apartment blocks.
Following a full tender process, HBS New Energies were appointed by Kier and Eastbourne Borough Council as the renewable partner for a large 700 kWh solar PV scheme for the council’s social housing properties. The new energies division delivered a full service solar PV solution across multi-sites, completing retro-fit solar panel installations to the roofs of 75 social apartment blocks.
Project delivery
- We were responsible for all aspects of the design and installation, from site surveys to commissioning and end-user support.
- A full feasibility study was completed across their property portfolio. Having identified 75 properties that would be viable for solar, our in-house design team specified and designed the most cost-effective and efficient systems.
- Under our client’s request bird-proofing systems were integrated in our design for pitched roofs. This was to avoid unnecessary damage to the systems and prolong the cleanliness of the modules.
- The project team managed the complete installation from start to finish including; roofing, installation, electrical connection and system commissioning. The installations were completed over an eight week period in accordance with H&S standards set by Kier.
- The solar panel systems were retrofitted onto both pitched and flat roof type buildings, with Enphase micro generators connected to each module to achieve higher energy production. System sizes ranged between 2kWp to 25kWp.
- Tenant liaison was managed in-house with tenants regularly informed on the progress of the solar panel installations. At completion, a handover pack that included system warranty documents, O&M instructions and aftercare assistance was provided.
- HBS helped drive solar for social housing in Eastbourne. With a large proportion of the council’s social properties now generating their own clean energy through solar PV, social tenants will now enjoy energy bill savings long into the future. Furthermore, the council will reduce their carbon footprint and receive a healthy long-term income through the Feed-in-Tariff (FiT).
